Private Lessons
What is a private lesson?
A private lesson is one-on-one instruction between a student and a professional musician on the student's instrument. As opposed to tutoring in other school subjects, private lessons are not "remedial." Instead, individual study with a professional musician allows students the opportunity to advance and grow at their own pace. Due to the individual attention and the customized curriculum, private lessons are one of the best investments you can make towards your child's music education.
The band staff has gone to great lengths to ensure that students get the opportunity to receive the highest quality instruction on each individual instrument. Many of our instructors perform with the Houston Symphony and Houston Grand Opera. Private lessons are available and strongly recommended to all members of the Spring Band.
Why should anyone enroll in private lessons?
There are generally four reasons for students to take lessons on their instrument.
When do lessons happen?
Lessons are held weekly at SHS during the school day, or before/after school. The exact time will be discussed between the band directors, the student, and the lesson teacher.
How do I start private lessons?
To enroll your child in lessons, please see your child's band director to receive a private lesson enrollment form. This form must be returned with a one-time $60 deposit so that your child can be assigned a teacher. Once the form and deposit have been received, you and your child will be given information about your new teacher and when your lessons will occur.
